MEET THE ARTISTS

Robert Fairchild
was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He has drawn since he was a child, but did not seriously study art until he attended high school. His teachers Bobby Spillman and Amanda McKnight encouraged him to study art in college. He received a full scholarship to the University of Memphis which helped him further his education tremendously. Fairchild currently studies studio art with a focus in painting. Thanks to the instruction of professional painters Beth Edwards and Jed Jackson his work has matured immensely in a short amount of time.
Painters such as Lucien Freud, Edward Hopper, and Chuck Close influence Fairchild's depictions of the human figure. His works aim to document the world around him to follow in the path of the many painters that came before him. The rendering of his subjects reminds the viewer of the importance of human connection. His still life paintings adopt the same aesthetic choices, but give objects a monumental or intimate depiction. As for Fairchild's abstract paintings he is inspired by Mark Rothko and Piet Mondrian. His use of a grid unifies his compositions, and his varied color palette keeps the audience's attention.
A key part of Fairchild's development is working in multiple mediums. Along with painting, he enjoys ceramics, sculpture, and printmaking. Besides making art, Fairchild curates art salons at his home with the help of local artists to bring the community together. To Fairchild, art is about creating a connection with a stranger and encouraging conversation.

Zoe Nadel
Zoe Nadel holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in English from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of London, London,England. She has written, but not published, a book titled,"My Garden Began With Art." But her passion for painting is what she has focused on for the last fifty years.

Zoe's art work is in 14 corporate collections including Delta Airlines and Embassy Suites. In 2016 PBS' Tennessee Crossroads, aired a story of her life as an artist and gardener which can still be viewed on UTUBE: Zoe Nadel An Artist's Journey. Two of her mixed media collages were licensed for reproduction as giclees and sold successfully by the manufacturer, on Amazon and on houzz.com. Her art has appeared in, At Home Memphis & Mid South. On line frame company, pictureframes.com has featured Zoe in several publications referring to her "exceptional skill in completing an artistic presentation with bold matting and framing choices that accentuate the emotion and feeling within a piece."

For Zoe, the literal world is just a reference point to observe light, shape, color and rhythm. Her painting process has a sense of channeling as she works intuitively, purging the subconscious for imagery. Nothing is done with premeditation. Instinct and subconsciousness are worth more to her than calculation.

Zoe's complete work can be seen on her website galleryzoe.com and locally at Erling Jensen in East Memphis.

La'Donna Roberts
I love painting with acrylics. A marathon of Bob Ross and my grandfather's encouragement helped me cultivate my love for the arts. I've been able to teach nearly 8,000 people the art of acrylics. I hope one day that my art works inspire hope, love, understanding, peace and most of a deep connection to self and others.
