TREZEVANT HOSTS SECOND BI-ANNUAL GALA FOR THE ARTS
Trezevant, a senior living community located in the heart of Memphis at 177 North Highland, held its second bi-annual Gala for the Arts on the evening of Tuesday, August 27. Trezevant residents are known for supporting the local art community including visual arts, music, theatre and more. This year’s Gala for the Arts event spanned throughout the 15-acre senior living community, treating residents to excellent cuisine, signature cocktails and one-of-a-kind performances by visiting artists including Trezevant’s newest Iris Collective Artists in Residence as well as entertainment from Ballet Memphis, harpist Barbara Christensen, CazaTeatro, Hattiloo Theatre, Iris Collective, pianist Josh Quinn, Memphis Black Arts Alliance, Memphis Jazz Workshop, Memphis Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, New Ballet Ensemble, Opera Memphis, Playhouse on the Square, PRIZM Ensemble, Stax 910 Band, Tennessee Shakespeare Company, Theatre Memphis, and more.
This showcase of exceptional performing and visual artists was inspired by Trezevant resident Perre Magness, coordinated by Trezevant’s dedicated staff and sponsored by a variety of the senior living community’s partners such as ARTSMemphis as well as various supportive sponsors. As a special addition to this year’s event, Trezevant extended an invitation to Plough Towers, Katie Sexton Community Center and Josephine K. Lewis Senior Center, each of which were invited to bring up to ten guests to join in the festivities. All attendees got the opportunity to traverse the Trezevant campus and take in the sights, sounds and tastes of the best that the Memphis arts community has to offer.
For Trezevant residents, the event offered an array of performances right where they live. For example, Hattiloo Theatre performed songs from Paradise Blues and Playhouse on the Square performed select songs from The Wiz.
“Art is part of the fabric of living here,” says Rinnie Wood, Trezevant fitness director and community liaison. “It is equally rewarding to see how much the residents enjoy the performances and to see the performers realize how much they are appreciated. We can’t wait to celebrate them again!”
