MEMPHIS, Tennessee, November 8, 2023 – RAPAC, the largest recycler of polystyrene in the U.S., today announced its eco-friendly
EcoSix™ recycled resin products have received the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification for the second year in a row. This reflects RAPAC's ongoing efforts to promote a circular economy, reduce waste, and enhance sustainability practices across its operations.
The GRS is an international, voluntary, full-product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions.
“This achievement is a testament to our commitment to sustainable practices and our ongoing efforts to make a positive impact on the environment,” said Stephen Doorley, Plant Manager at RAPAC. “We believe that recycling plays a crucial role in creating a more circular economy and are determined to lead the way in promoting sustainable solutions.”
RAPAC is the largest recycler of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and services companies worldwide with a diverse range of products. As an industry leader in the use of recycled content, the company offers applications of polystyrene including both EPS and PS products, as well as proprietary, custom resins for a multitude of industries and applications. With EcoSix™ recycled resins, RAPAC is the largest recycler of polystyrene in the country.
The recertification not only reinforces RAPAC's dedication to sustainability, but also strengthens its position as a trusted partner for businesses seeking environmentally responsible solutions. Beyond its own operations, the company actively participates in community outreach programs to raise awareness about recycling and waste management. By educating the public and collaborating with local organizations, RAPAC aims to inspire individuals and businesses to embrace sustainable practices and make a positive impact on the environment.
Through GRS’s third-party verification process, RAPAC was able verify the recycled content of its products, as well as responsible social, environmental, and chemical practices in its production. The certification defines requirements to ensure accurate content claims, good working conditions, and minimal harmful environmental and chemical impacts for companies in more than 50 countries.
