MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 11, 2019 – Paragon Bank (OTCBB: PGNN.OB) is showcasing artwork from Memphis Oral School for the Deaf (MOSD) students in its Saddle Creek Banking Center (7600 Poplar Avenue) throughout the month of March. MOSD helps profoundly deaf and hard-of-hearing children ages birth to six years old learn language during the most critical developmental stages of their lives.

"It's amazing to see how these children express themselves through art, especially when they are faced with such significant communication challenges," said Robert Shaw, Chief Executive Officer at Paragon Bank. "Everyone from our customers to our team members enjoy seeing their artwork, and we appreciate being able to partner with MOSD in this way."

The students created various pieces titled "release of the butterflies." Each spring, students at MOSD study the life cycle of butterflies and observe daily changes as they grow. The children watch as each caterpillar forms its chrysalis, and they wait patiently for changes to take place. As the butterflies emerge from the chrysalis, the children feed and are there for them as they learn to fly. This process has become a symbol of the preparation that takes place at MOSD, as each child with hearing loss is lovingly cared for and taught to listen and talk. Paragon worked with MOSD Executive Director Lauren Hays to coordinate the exhibit.

"As butterflies are released, we celebrate the success of the students who are ready to graduate and enter the mainstream," said Hays. "Our hope is that they can now 'fly' freely and independently as they leave Memphis Oral School for the Deaf to enter school with their hearing peers."
