MEMPHIS, TENN. (June 24, 2020) - - - Global brand experience agency LEO Events, alongside client Walmart, was awarded Best Stage Design at Event Marketer’s annual Ex Awards for their work on the Walmart Associates & Shareholders Meeting, held in Fayetteville, Arkansas last year. Although LEO Events has been named a finalist for their work with Walmart and Sherwin-Williams in the past, this is the first time the agency has been presented the coveted honor. The Ex Awards are the world’s most prestigious recognition program for experiential marketing and live events. More than 1,000 nominations were received for the awards this year, and winners were announced live in a virtual ceremony on June 23rd.

We are truly grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside the Walmart Event Solutions Team on Shareholders and Associates Week. There are so many pieces to this show and it truly takes a village.” said David Kenyon, LEO’s Senior Vice President of Production.
Main features of the stage set included LED screens measuring 20 feet tall and 140 feet wide displaying 33 million pixels. A 44-foot wide turntable at center stage rotated to prep for entertainment segments, allowing staffers to remove and replace each performance set within 15 minutes while a business talk took place on the other side (Lady A and One Republic were among performers). Four additional turntables revealed guest speakers such as international Walmart associates. Each turntable rotated in sequence with theatrical lighting and LED light blades. Augmented reality was utilized during President and CEO Doug McMillon’s keynote address to support his main message of change, innovation, and problem solving. In one instance, an antique biplane “flew” over the audience, bringing the inspiring history of the Wright brothers to life.
The Walmart Associates & Shareholders Meeting is an annual event held each summer. Bringing together 14,000 Walmart Associates from 29 countries, this week-long celebration of associates and shareholders is a dynamic approach to traditional corporate general sessions, encompassing a Grammy Award-style final meeting. 2019 coverage of the event spanned Yahoo! Finance and The Washington Post, and the entire program was broadcasted virtually for the world to see what Walmart has…in store. LEO Events has produced this event consecutively for Walmart since 2015, with the exception of 2020 as the show was cancelled due to COVID-19.
