Job Description
OPEN POSITION: Communications Associate at the Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC)
The Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) seeks a qualified Communications Associate to join our growing team. Established in 2016, MMDC is a not-for-profit, community development organization committed to strengthening the communities between and around its anchor institutions – major healthcare and educational institutions – including ALSAC / St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Baptist Health Sciences University, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Regional One Health, Shelby County Health Department, Southern College of Optometry, Southwest Tennessee Community College and University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. Together, these institutions have more than 25,000 employees, 8,000 students, collective spend of $1.3 billion, and control more than 300 acres of real estate. The Memphis Medical District is also home to more than 10,000 residents. These institutions, along with local and national philanthropy, area corporations and collaborative community partners, support the work of MMDC to revitalize the Memphis Medical District, and make it a preferred destination to work, live, learn and visit.
Title: Communications Associate
Reports To: Communications & Engagement Director
 
We are seeking a full-time Communications Associate to join our dynamic Communications & Engagement team. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and organized with an ability to manage multiple projects and timelines. They will support MMDC’s mission by engaging with the community to grow awareness of the organization and the Memphis Medical District. They will create promotional content and materials, coordinate community events, and effectively deliver our organization’s message to the public and the media. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and other non-standard work hours as needed.
Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, public relations, or journalism
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a marketing/communication and/or events position
  • Solid understanding of marketing platforms, tools, and techniques
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience with graphic design programs such as Adobe Suite or Canva
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills
Salary Range
$35,000 - $45,000 commensurate with experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Copywriting, blogging, and other content generation, editing, and management for website, social media, and newsletter through collaboration with staff, partners, and community.
  • Collaborating with agency partners to plan, manage and execute a social media strategy and reporting related data.
  • Managing event and news listings on social media and external medial platforms
  • Coordinating graphic design and print production of marketing and promotional materials.
  • Supporting management of online CRM system.
  • Maintaining project and press archives, including shared database of images and information.
  • Providing additional PR and marketing support as needed.
  • Working with and across all program areas to plan, execute, and promote events.
  • Representing MMDC at events, including MMDC hosted events, MMDC sponsored events and/or community events.
  • Coordinating MMDC’s event grant program.
  • Collaborating with the Communication & Engagement Director on marketing projects and event planning.
