Trezevant Residents Form Creative Writing Club

A group of Trezevant residents have come together to form a creative writing club in an effort to have an outlet to express themselves via the written word. Inspired by a Creative Aging writing workshop led by Elaine Blanchard, Trezevant's creative writing club members originally met monthly via Zoom. Now, vaccinated and feeling safe to get together while remaining socially distanced, they meet in person at the senior living community on the third Sunday of each month at 3:00 pm. The members have chosen to meet monthly in order to give themselves plenty of time to work alone on their writing in between meetings.

Members of the creative writing club include Jack Richbourg, Frankie Wade, Fred Wimmer, Anne Carriere and Joan Chesney. Members leverage their experiences in life, love and work (some are former attorneys, doctors and business owners) to inform their stories and poems.

Each member brings to meetings the materials he/she has written then shares their writing with the group for feedback. Some of the lessons they learned from the Creative Aging workshop are the importance of constructive criticism and the power of editing. So far, writing topics have ranged from road trips and baseball to springtime and the challenges brought on by the pandemic.

The members of this club feel that these meetings have helped them stay creative and keep up their communication during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. They say that they are moved by each person's unique style and that the topics they write about often spark profound conversations among them.
