Simply put, functional disability is the loss of ability to do things we enjoy, due to pain or immobility. The most common cause of functional disability, we see, in people over 50 is a result of spinal disorders. Nerve interference leaves many people unable to walk without a walker or confined to a wheelchair. Back, neck, and hip pain make it hard to do simple tasks such as a walk through a grocery store, take the dog for a stroll, or enjoy playing with grandchildren. As our population continues to age, we are seeing more stair lifts, walk in bathtubs, and handicapped parking spaces.
