Junior Achievement to Launch Startup Park by FedEx
(Memphis, TN) – Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South will soon launch Startup Park by FedEx, a program for 5th and 6th grade students across the region to engage in early-stage entrepreneurship education, with a focus on minority and women-owned businesses. Via this hands-on program, students will meet black, brown, and women entrepreneurs whose businesses are in the first stages of development and who represent diverse industries and communities across the Mid-South.

“There’s simply no replacement for a student seeing someone who looks like them succeeding in business,” says Jason Campbell, Junior Achievement Board Member and VP of Operations and Ops System Support for FedEx Custom Critical. “FedEx continues to invest in small, minority- and women-owned businesses in the region – and that includes doubling down on our investment in local youth through our strategic support of JA.”
Junior Achievement is equally enthusiastic about the new collaboration with FedEx and the diverse focus of its new program.

“Children can’t be what they can’t see,” said Leigh Mansberg, president and CEO of Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South. “FedEx has been collaborating with us and, with their generous support, we’re excited to transform the narrative for thousands of future black, brown, and women entrepreneurs across the 25-county area JA serves.”

Mansberg goes on to explain the unique need for Startup Park by FedEx.

“This program is a new storefront within JA BizTown, where students are exposed to working in large, well-known organizations and being a part of the global economy,” she says. “Now students will also learn how they can forge their own path and start new businesses, armed with tools and powerful examples of entrepreneurship. This support from FedEx will allow us to do just that.”

Located in Junior Achievement’s new experiential learning center at 516 Tillman in the Binghampton area of Memphis, TN, StartUp Park by FedEx will support the region’s efforts to make entrepreneurship an accessible pathway for all children. This program will teach children the basics of starting a business and engaging all the necessary partners to help that business thrive.

Since entrepreneurs are essential to driving a vibrant economy, JA believes that entrepreneurship provides a critical path for students to realize economic mobility. Startup Park by FedEx aims to create the next generation of entrepreneurs who have the financial tools to support their vision and a finite understanding of the workforce so that they might join and build teams in whatever venture they choose.
“Our long-term goals are to lay the foundation for a pipeline to entrepreneurship through high school and beyond, and also to see evidence that participants in StartUp Park by FedEx are developing tangible, age-appropriate entrepreneurial ideas and solutions that can be supported within the local youth entrepreneur ecosystem,” says Mansberg.
