Hollywood Feed University Presents Free, Online Course on Pet Fostering 101
Hollywood feed recently hosted a free virtual class, entitled “Pet Fostering 101” taught by Memphis Animal Services’ Shelter Supervisor Dani Rutherford. This course was part of Hollywood Feed’s free pet wellness education resource known as Hollywood Feed University.
Dani began by defining what fostering is and everything involved in the process. Specifically, she reviewed what the duties and responsibilities are for a pet foster home. After that, she reviewed both the challenges and the rewards of opening up one’s home to a pet in need.
She then moved on to go over the different experience levels of fostering and what animals fall into each category. For instance, beginners can foster a mother cat with babies since all one has to do is care for the mother cat and she will do much of the rest! On the contrary, bottle-fed kittens require more care and feeding, typically every 2-3 hours. Similarly, various types and ages of dogs require different skill and experience levels when it comes to fostering, especially when it comes to pups with any behavioral issues or special needs. Lastly, Dani outlined some questions that would be helpful for a potential fosterer to consider before taking a pet into their home.
After each presentation, Dani held a live, interactive Q&A session with attendees and addressed the questions asked by viewers.
A recording of each class may be viewed on the Hollywood Feed University website at:
