Hollywood Feed Presents Memphis Flyer's First-Ever Virtual Adopt-A-Thon

On November 12th, Hollywood Feed presented the Memphis Flyer's first-ever Virtual Pet Adopt-A-Thon live from the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County. The event was hosted by Jon Sparks, editor of Inside Memphis Business and a senior editor of Memphis magazine.

This event was particularly pertinent this year because pet owner surrender intake is up 164.47% from this time last year.

Jon Sparks opened the event and introduced Jean McGhee with Hollywood Feed. McGhee commented on the strong partnership between Hollywood Feed and the Humane Society. Hollywood Feed is passionate about pets having healthy, forever homes. Before the pandemic, in-person adoption events were held regularly. McGhee shared that she is hopeful that the virtual Adopt-A-Thon reminds people that there are still many animals out there that need homes.

"Our values at Hollywood Feed align very much with the Humane Society," said McGhee. "The more we can get animals off the streets and into homes, the more we can improve the lives of pets and enhance human lives through animal companionship."

Hollywood Feed offers a variety of services to help pet owners care for their pets amid the pandemic including same day delivery, curbside pick up and Hollywood Feed University, which is Hollywood Feed's new, free, online pet wellness education resource.

The event included a virtual tour of the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County to see cats and dogs that are currently residing there and in need of homes. Ellen Zahariadis, the executive director of the Humane Society, and Katherine Russell, the Humane Society's director of philanthropy gave attendees an inside look at the work they are doing there daily. They took attendees through the Humane Society, showing all of the features the organization has to offer. They then described the daily routine of the animals that live there and introduced some specific animals that are in need of homes. There was an opportunity for people interested in adopting pets to begin the adoption process virtually. The event concluded with a Q & A with the Humane Society's on-site trainer.
