Campbell Clinic’s Dr. Marcus Ford Speaks to East Memphis Rotary Club

Dr. Marcus Ford with Campbell Clinic spoke to the East Memphis Rotary Club outdoors on Wednesday, August 12 at Windyke Country Club. Dr. Ford’s presentation covered current trends in orthopaedics as well as advances in joint replacements, specifically the hip and knee.

He walked attendees through the journey that a patient typically experiences during a joint replacement, noting that the patient’s recovery time has decreased while the positive effects of the procedure now have greater longevity. Patients now have the ability to have a joint replacement in an outpatient surgery setting, allowing them to recover in their own homes, thereby increasing their level comfort and the speed of recovery.

Lastly, Dr. Ford touched on his work with the younger population. As osteoarthritis has become more prevalent, even in younger patients, Dr. Ford has taken special interest in performing procedures that allow joint replacement patients to stay active for years to come. These new procedures have been especially beneficial for young athletes.

The presentation concluded with East Memphis Rotary Club’s President-Elect, Matt Haaga, thanking Dr. Ford for sharing his wisdom with club members.

Dr. Ford is a graduate of the University of Kansas. He went on to attend medical school at the University of Texas in San Antonio where he graduated as valedictorian. He then completed orthopaedic surgery training at Campbell Clinic followed by a joint reconstruction fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Ford plays an active role in education and research at Campbell Clinic. He teaches orthopaedic residents and fellows, serves as faculty for surgeon training around the country, participates in clinical research projects, and serves as a consultant for various hip and knee projects, in addition to performing a large volume of hip and knee replacements each year.
