Job Description
Olymbec USA is looking for an experienced estimator in the construction industry. Olymbec owns and manages a diverse portfolio of industrial, office, retail, and residential properties located throughout Canada and the United States. Headquartered in Montréal, Olymbec is now one of the largest private industrial real estate holders in Eastern Canada with branch offices located in key markets across Québec and the United States including; Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke, Québec City, Dallas, Columbus, Atlanta, Las Vegas, St. Louis, Memphis, Hartford, Indianapolis and West Virginia.

Essential Functions
  • Create processes and procedures related to a company estimation program
  • Assess the type of tender, client and closing date of tender to determine prioritization of all tenders.
  • Analyze drawing, specifications and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
  • When necessary, refer to previous projects of similar nature for cost comparison.
  • Use Mathematical equations to determine the quantity of material needed by calculating width, length, depth and density.
  • Prepare, issue, receive and review supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing.
  • Negotiates all pricing to ensure the best possible pricing for each project;
  • Coordinates all changes in scope, questions or clarifications regarding the work, during the bidding process.
  • Acts as a resource to project management during the award / start-up phase to clarify any issues regarding what was considered in the estimate including materials and methods of construction;
  • Reviews budget and goals with supervision and project team as required. Seeks input on corrective measures to continuously improve the identification and accuracy of cost figures; 
  • Acts as a resource for project management by providing cost information and developing cost estimates for changes in the work, during different construction phases;
  • Other estimating duties as required.
  • Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, plans, specifications, and related documents.
  • Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Conduct site inspection for tender understanding, analysis of conditions and assessment of risk and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in tender documents.
  • Attend and participate in onsite meetings with clients, owners, representatives, staff, sub trades, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assembles bid-files including all development information that was utilized in preparation of the estimates.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate contact information for suppliers, sub-contractors and clients. Deliver bids on time for tenders closing.
Some travel is required.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Work Environment
  • This job requires working in commercial spaces including but not limited to industrial, warehouse, and office environments.
  • This position requires working indoors and outdoors in various climate conditions ranging from very hot to very cold with rain to very hot and humid. This may include confined locations.
  • This job requires work with a general office nature usually performed sitting such as computer related work.
  • Required to use a vehicle for the performance of duties.
  • May be exposed or required to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly requires sitting, walking, bending, for prolonged periods of time.
  • The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of hands feet and fingers to handle or feel objects and must be capable of bending, reaching, and crouching.
  • Must have command of all five senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste.  Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.  Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face to face for long periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity required to use a computer.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in building science, construction management.
  • The ideal candidate will have minimum ten years’ experience.
