SUMMARY:Information Session: Is My Business Too Small to be a Drug-Free Workplace?
DESCRIPTION:As a small business owner\, you are concerned with your ability to be financially successful and your reputation to be a good place for your employees to work. Most of us think that drug abuse at work only happens in big companies where employees can hide their substance-abusing activities and their effects from supervisors and coworkers. Whether the substance abuse occurs at home or at work\, employees who abuse alcohol and drugs (including illegal drugs\, prescription drugs\, and over-the-counter drugs) can create significant issues for both employers\, other employees\, and for customers. Employees who abuse drugs have lower job performance\, reduced productivity\, and greater absenteeism\, not to mention higher medical and workers' compensation costs.\n\n\n\nQuestions you may be asking include how expensive and time-consuming would it be to be a drug-free workplace? What are the positives? What are the downsides? Do we have to drug-test our employees? Do we really need this? How would I go about talking with an employee who I suspect may have a drug or alcohol problem?\n\n\n\nPlease join us on Wednesday\, May 10\, at 4:00 p.m. for a one-hour information session to explore the many sides of substance abuse behavior in the workplace and to learn that the benefits are many when employers have and depend upon clear and strong substance-prevention policies and procedures. Judy Bookman\, MA\, LCSW\, the Assistant Director at Concern EAP\, will be presenting this information in the main floor meeting room at the Lipscomb and Pitts Building\, 2670 Union Ave. Extended and will be happy to answer your questions about the signs and symptoms of substance abuse and how to handle these sensitive issues.\n\n\n\nPlease RSVP your attendance to judy.bookman@bmhcc.org. We look forward to seeing you at this important event.
