The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issued a proposed rule on February 6, 2014 that would significantly change the NLRB’s election rules and procedures for union recognition. Also in September 2013 the American Federation of Labor- Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) announced a new organizing strategy for the South. There have been efforts to organize companies in Memphis. Companies will learn what their legal rights are and how to remain union free in a “Right to Work” state.
Wage & Hour Law 2014: Employee Classification on New Overtime Rules - Small and large business are being forced to pay out large sums of money for misclassifying employees and failing to pay overtime. In 2014 President Obama recently declared that the FLSA was “outdated" and ordered the Department of Labor (DOL) to rewrite the rules. Attending this workshop will offer you current information on how to classify your employees (exempt or nonexempt) and who is eligible for overtime. It will also provide the current updates.
