Overseeing ED Performance Doesn't Have to Be Painful: Let's face it, it's tough to effectively oversee the performance of the Executive Director. And yet, it's a vital function of the board to ensure successful leadership of the organization. Don't wait until problems arise. Join PeopleCap to learn how to establish a proactive system for performance oversight based on partnership, trust, and feedback that will help your ED and organization reach their full potential.

The Board's Role in Talent Development: Great talent is hard to come by and non-profits find themselves with the added disadvantage of limited budgets. How can the board help grow the team's skills to increase impact, develop future leaders, and support the retention of key talent without stepping on the toes of the ED's daily management responsibilities? PeopleCap will walk you through strategies to develop your organization's talent without breaking the bank and in support of the leadership.

Meg Thomas Crosby

In 2000, a former colleague asked me to join a software development startup in Los Angeles, Applied Semantics. I was eager to get involved in technology, so I joined the management team as Director of Human Resources. As a department of one, I established employee benefits, recruited new talent, managed employee relations, and worked with the management team on all of the people aspects of their business strategies.

In 2003, Applied Semantics had the great fortune of being acquired by Google, giving me a front-row seat for the company’s meteoric rise. I was the first human resources generalist at Google, and was responsible for the Southern California region. As the organization grew, I formed a cross-functional mergers and acquisitions integration team to ensure that companies Google acquired were blended smoothly into Google’s strong culture while limiting any disruption in productivity. In five years, I participated in 35 deals on four continents. During that time, Google grew from 1.000 to 25,000 employees, and the human resources team grew from 14 to 1,000. I left Google in 2008, after the birth of my son.

I founded PeopleCap in 2012 because I am passionate about people and believe that human understanding and interaction are the most basic kernels of progress. If we can help people work together better, we can change the world.

I am also passionate about my hometown, Memphis, TN. I serve on the board of Diversified Trust, a comprehensive wealth management firm based in Memphis with offices in the Southeast, as well as on the boards of Rhodes College, the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, The T.W. Briggs Foundation and The Kitchen Communities. I am also a founding board member of the forthcoming and highly innovative Crosstown High School, an XQ Future School.
