Event Description:
“Still Life,” presented by Melissa Bridgman and Debi Vincent, is a collaborative art show that embodies the timeless beauty of monochromatic painting technique found in delft pottery. This exhibit is based on antique surface design, specifically transferware pottery, wallpaper and textiles. Pieces from both artists feature a mix of shapes and textures, showcasing delicate silhouettes, botanical illustrations and traditional delft patterns, all united by a single, classic color – blue.
Melissa Bridgman earned a Master of Arts in Southern Studies from the University of Mississippi Center for the Study of Southern Culture. Her porcelain dishes are crafted either on a potter's wheel or by draping slabs in or over antique dish forms. All of her pieces are decorated with cobalt oxide and ceramic underglazes in varying blues. She has been decorating pots since 2009 and began making pottery in 2000. Bridgman also studied under ceramicist, Diana Fayt, and has taught ceramics in a variety of settings since 2001.
Originally from Missouri, Debi Vincent has aspired to be an artist since her early adolescent years. A self-taught artisan, she developed an appreciation for vintage pottery and unique artwork from her time browsing estate sales with her mother. Currently, she lives and creates in Midtown Memphis. Her work in this collection is comprised of watercolor masterpieces mounted on cradled panel.
