Last year's forum was a tremendous success and included representatives from higher education, government, private sector, faith and community based organizations and K-12 entities.
The 2018 Forum, titled "Equity in Education" is aligned with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and promises to be very engaging. Dr. Danette Howard, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Lumina Foundation, is the keynote speaker. She will share with forum attendees the work Lumina is engaged in to close equity gaps in post-secondary access and completion. There will be a Q & A session, group discussions on addressing equity in education within our community, followed by a showcase of institutional best practices that address equity gaps.
We have heard the collective sentiment that there are not enough trained workers to fill the vacant positions in our community.
As business and economic development leaders, your input and support of efforts to improve the educational pipeline for Shelby County residents are greatly needed and appreciated. We sincerely appreciate your commitment to partner with Leadership Memphis and Graduate Memphis as we work collaboratively to ensure that all students, regardless of race, social class, age or gender, can access higher learning, are supported through degree completion and ultimately, become active participants in our workforce.
